Me...my sister Celia...my sister Bunnie

It’s been a tough few weeks.

My sister, Celia, struggled with several health issues for the past few years. She had clearly been on a sharp decline since last fall. In early February she was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where she was checked into the Medical Intensive Care tower. She did better for a while and was sent to the rehab wing…but on February 14, she experienced cardiac arrest. The doctors pulled her back from the brink and returned her to ICU. She “coded” a total of five times. It became apparent that medical science had reached the limit. There was nothing further to be done, other than say goodbye. So, around 8:00 p.m. on the evening of February 19, six of us who loved her deeply surrounded her bed as the machines and tubes were disconnected. With words of “I love you” and “Go in peace,” we helped her slip from this world into the next.

She was a funny, loving and warm person. Her laughter and song still ring in our ears – and always will. The photo above is the three of us eldest girls, taken on Celia’s 50th birthday. It’s my favorite of the photo shoot.

The photo below is another favorite from a family gathering. Celia and my daughter had a grand time in a suds-filled hot tub at our aunt’s house in Houston. I cherish the memory of that trip. This photo is framed on my dresser. I love it so!

She was just 55 when she died. Life will not be the same without her in it.

I love you, Little Sis.

I’ll be thinking of you and your family. Holler if you need anything. Celia looks like she was a super neat person to know and love.

So sorry to read of your sister’s passing. Sending a cyber-hug to you! Wish we were closer so we could just share a cup of coffee and chat. She sounds like a wonderful sister and friend.
